Took a drive from Haruru Falls to Kerikeri. A combination of early(ish) morning and New Years day meant that the town was empty and quiet. Took a walk along the Dept of Conservation’s Kerikeri River Reserve. Lots of greenery, beautiful water, waterfalls, different birds and blue sky!
On the way out of Kerikeri we stopped at the now-open Wanaka boutique chocolate shop. Got some ‘dark macadamia bark’. Yum. Went back to Paihai and sat on the beach, swam and read books and magazines for a few hours. A very late lunch of pizzas at an Italian spot went down very well.
Back at the campsite we read books under a shady tree overlooking the river until the sun set (about 9pm).
Day 6: about 60km travelled
